100th Year Celebration
Dear Sisters and Brothers,
In 2009, the beautiful Belmont Mansion in Washington, DC, now our International Headquarters, will turn 100 years old. To celebrate this milestone, Sister Barbara Benton, Most Worthy Grand Matron, envisions a weekend for our members in our nation's capital. She has asked me to serve as Chairman, along with the help of Sister Ellen Balko, Past Grand Matron of the Grand Chapter of the District of Columbia.
While our planning has just begun, we wanted you to be aware of this event so that you can mark the date on your calendar and make plans to join us for this celebration.
The dates selected by Sister Barbara for the celebration are September 11-13, 2009. Activties are still in the planning stage, but will culminate in an Open House at the International Headquarters on Sunday, September 13, 2009. This event will give Eastern Star members an opportunity to tour our beautiful Headquarters and see the many valuable artifacts housed there. You can read about the Perry Belmont Mansion elsewhere on this website. After reading of it's history, you will realize what a magnificent building our International Headquarters truly is.
Other events being considered for the weekend are a Get-Acquainted Reception on Friday evening and a dinner and concert at the George Washington Masonic Memorial on Saturday evening. During the day, members will be free to tour the many historical and beautiful sights in our nation's capital-the Washington, Lincoln and Jefferson monuments; Smithsonian Institute; the U.S. Capitol; Holocaust Museum; National Cathedral; and nearby Mount Vernon (home of George Washington) - just to name a few. Tours, housing and meals (other than those specifically planned for the weekend) will be at your own arrangement. I have listed some area hotels below.
